After a long wait and a lot of rumors, Fairphone 4 – the next ‘sustainable smartphone’ from Fairphone is now official with Qualcomm Snapdragon 750G 5G, a five-year warranty, a promise of two major Android updates, and software support until the end of 2025 for just €579 / £499.
What really makes this smartphone stand out is that it is easy to repair with low environmental impact without compromising with the design and internal power. Now let’s talk about its specifications.
Specs and Features of Fairphone 4
The Fairphone 4 has been designed and upgraded keeping the company’s tagline in mind which says, ‘For people and planet – We believe a fairer electronic industry.’
Like other smartphones in the lineup, the Fairphone 4 has a modular design, which allows users to easily swap out the battery, display, camera module, and other parts with a standard screwdriver.
This 225g Fairphone 4 is powered Qualcomm’s mid-range Snapdragon 750G chipset, which can be coupled with either 6GB or 8GB RAM and 128GB or 256GB of internal storage (expandable via a microSD card). The smartphone houses a 60Hz 6.3-inch FHD+ LCD screen with a tall 19:5:9 aspect ratio and Gorilla Glass 5 protection.
Now talking about the optics, this 5G handset features a dual-camera setup featuring a 48MP main camera with OIS (4K / 30fps), a 48MP ultra-wide shooter (120-degree field of view), and a ToF sensor for capturing depth information. On the front, it has a 25MP selfie shooter within a waterdrop notch.
Additionally, it features a side-mounted fingerprint reader, dual-band Wi-Fi support, Bluetooth 5.1, NFC, dual SIM with 5G support on both SIMs, and a 3905mAh removable battery with Quick Charge 4, USB PD 2.0 capabilities, and 30W fast charging support (via a USB Type-C port), (although the charger needs to be bought separately).
The Fairphone 4 runs on the stock version of Android 11 but as claimed by the company it will be providing two major Android updates with extended software support till the end of 2025.
This sustainable smartphone has a lot of attractive features but unfortunately, it doesn’t have a headphone jack, probably to offer an official IP54 rating for dust and water resistance.
Price and Availability
The Fairphone 4, now available for pre-order on the company’s website, comes in gray, green, and speckled green color options and is priced at €579/£499 for the 6/128GB model and €649/£569 for the 8/256GB model. Also, all key spare parts of the Fairphone 4, including the rear camera module, LCD, battery, loudspeaker, and USB port, are available on the company’s site.
Hence, with all this we can say that the Fairphone 4 is now in competition with other mid-range Android handsets with something new i.e. 5 years warranty that companies like Samsung and Google also haven’t offered up yet.
