AMD Radeon RX 6000 “Big Navi” GPU benchmarks possible leak, strong competition with stock NVidia GeForce RTX 2080 Ti

Next-Gen AMD GPU by October End

In the second week of October, AMD is all set to release its next generation of GPUs. But however initial leaked benchmarks of an unnamed AMD Radeon GPU gives the first glimpse of how the RDNA 2 graphics cards will perform.

Unnamed Leak: Possibly Big Navi

Noted a hardware tipster known as APISAK and leaker rogame both posted results from the Ashes of the Singularity: Escalation benchmark. It was a list of results showcasing the performance specs of NVidia GeForce RTX 2080 Ti, but there was another unnamed AMD Radeon GPU in the list that trades blows with the stock RTX 2080 Ti.

At 4K with Crazy (highest) settings, the unnamed AMD Radeon GPU in the game’s benchmark scored 63.9 FPS. Comparing to the NVidia GeForce RTX 2070, AMD puts itself about 35% ahead of stock and roughly on par with a stock NVidia GeForce RTX 2080 Ti. Still have a sizeable lead between 15-20% over the AMD GPU by the overclocked 2080 Ti cards. Although it is not known about the AMD card whether it was overclocked in this benchmark.

About 20-25% higher was scored by the unnamed GPU than AMD’s current flagship GPU, the Radeon RX 5700 XT.

AMD: Master of Pricing

If the benchmarks are certainly for the Big Navi than it will be considered a double-edged sword for AMD. The Radeon RX 5700 XT was priced at US$400 at launch which is priced lower than the rival NVidia. On other hand, a GPU with the performance of an RTX 2080 Ti was rolled out at a starting price of $1000 upon release. So it makes it obvious that the price of a Radeon RX 5700 XT would likely sell well, especially with the upper mid-range crowd and value hunters for their money.

But it is not the end for NVidia because if we consider a recent leak in the same benchmark (Ashes of the Singularity, 4K, Crazy) showed the NVidia GeForce RTX 3080 hitting 98 FPS, which would put it about 55% ahead of the alleged AMD Radeon 6000 GPU. The gap between the two rivals’ flagship cards will be wider if this is indeed AMD’s top-of-the-line GPU. To win any part of the market share, the only chance of AMD is to focus on price-to-performance, and this is the field of AMD where it is the empress.

October 28: Wait is long

Of course, as these leaks are not at all verified so take these numbers with a quarry’s worth of salt. Still, we can think that it may be not the Radeon GPU sitting in AMD’s stack we are thinking. There could be two possibilities of this GPU, either bottom-of-the-barrel entry-level GPU or AMD’s top-tier card. Until October 8 the judgment is reserved by AMD, and this day when it officially releases its RDNA 2 GPUs, all talks will clear up.
