AMD Ryzen 9 5950X 16-Core CPU Overclocked to 5 GHz without Breaking a Sweat

With previous benchmarks releases that AMD Ryzen 5 5600X gives a Competition to Intel Core i5-10600K, Intel was already facing a neck-up competition but now with the new benchmarks, Intel is further pushed backward.

On the day before yesterday leaked benchmarks, the Ryzen 9 5950X was just a few megahertz short of 5GHz. But today the 16-core monster has been redeemed itself by smashing the 5GHz mark.

Maximum boost clock speeds were advertised by the AMD Ryzen 5000 (codename Vermeer) processors. Chipmaker’s own Precision Boost Overdrive (PBO) technology was not taken for value evaluation. And if the right conditions are provided to the processor then the PBO allows the processor to boost beyond AMD’s specifications. Ryzen 9 5950X, Ryzen 9 5900X, and Ryzen 7 5800X due to this feature are ticking faster than their showcased values in newly uncovered Geekbench 5 submissions.

AMD getting Boost from PBO

However, according to the official reports of the AMD Ryzen 9 5950X, it comes with a 4.9 GHz boost clock but surprisingly 16-core chip reached as high as 5.04 GHz. These speculations are quite impressive as AMD has never hit 5 GHz on a Ryzen before, all thanks to alone a chip with 16 cores.

PBO is benefiting the two Ryzen 9 5900X and Ryzen 7 5800X clock performance as well. Rating of 4.8 GHz and 4.7 GHz boost clocks of the 12-core and octa-core chips were observed respectively. Nonetheless, the Ryzen 7 5800X maxed out at 4.84 GHz and the Ryzen 9 5900X got as high as 4.94 GHz.

Ryzen processors would always get uppercut about not flaunting huge boost clocks and it is quite funny that just before Zen 3 such benchmarks are released. During one time that the current Zen 2-based AMD Ryzen 3000 (codename Matisse) offerings AMD admitted that it does not have any manual overclocking headroom. But now we witness the trio of AMD Ryzen 5000 parts with a much mature Zen 3 opening the door for higher clock speeds as all the series is dancing around the 5-GHz mark.

Performance Standing at Top

Although many factors lead to better performance higher performance is usually conveyed by better clock speeds. This testifies AMD’s promise of instructions per cycle (IPC) improvement of up to 19% on Ryzen 5000 in comparison to Ryzen 3000 as due to the already revealed how the Ryzen 9 5950X and Ryzen 9 5900X stand according to early Geekbench 5 benchmarks. In the Geekbench 5’s single-core charts the Ryzen 9 5950X is the current champion as the 16-core processor surpassed the Core i9-10900K in the single-core test by 17.7%, even though a 5.3 GHz maximum boost clock is flexed in Intel’s chip. A total of 6.9% faster multi-core performance was observed by Ryzen 9 5950X than Intel’s Core i9-10980XE. Moreover, AMD beat itself as AMD’s own Ryzen Threadripper processors, and also the Intel Xeon were the only ones to beat the Ryzen 9 5950X.

Zen 3: Most Exciting Release

With every leaked benchmark result the excitement for AMD Ryzen 5000 processors builds up in the enthusiasts. This excitement is worth as Zen 3 processors have already shown the substantial IPC enhancements and now the new potential boost has been observed which is nearing 5-GHz. Along with this, Ryzen 5000 AMD slides were suggesting DDR4-4000 which could be a new standard. In the last couple of years, Zen 3 could be the most exciting launch for all tech burners.
