OnePlus Co-founder Carl Pei has started a new hardware venture ‘Nothing’ in London in October 2020. And now they have come up with their first product Nothing Ear 1 TWS earbuds which feature a unique transparent design, ANC (active noise cancellation), tuned sonics, and most importantly comes at an affordable price. Nothing Ear 1 will be going to be available in 45 countries from 17th August for $99 (Rs. 5,999). Nothing Ear 1 earbuds were released after months of teasers and even it is auctioned off 100 pairs before official release.
Unique Design of Nothing Ear 1
Nothing Ear 1 comes up with a unique design from other TWS in the market. Nothing Ear 1 design is based upon transparency as it shows the microphones, magnets, and circuit board. And ear ear-bud is color-coded with red and white dots (which indicates right and left). The case of earbuds is also transparent and it has a dimpled finish on the inside which keeps the buds secure.
Earbuds follow a white body and ear tips, and a short transparent stem which allows users a flat surface for touch controls. Nothing 1 each earbud weighs 4.7 grams and the tips of each bud have three customizable liquid silicon for an ergonomic fit and better listening experience. Nothing 1 Earbuds has an 11.6mm driver paired with hardware and software calibrated by Swedish electronics house Teenage Engineering (known for their portable music creation tools like OP-1 and OP-Z).

There are three ANC modes: Light moded for moderate noise cancellation, Maximum mode for noisier environments like aircraft rumble, and a Transparency mode which allows to turn off ANC to listen outside the world without removing earbuds. Nothing uses Clear Voice Technology to reduce background noise during calls even gusts of wind up to 40km/h (25mph).
It supports Bluetooth 5.2 for connectivity and AAC and SBC audio codecs. It is also rated with IPX4 for sweat and splash resistance. There is an iOS/Android app with which we can tweak sounds, controls the touch and slide gestures(like double-tap on the flat stem to play/pause, triple-tap to switch tracks, tap-and-hold to switch between ANC modes, and swipe up/down to control volume), and find my earbud’s ability. And extra functions are in-ear detection and fast-pairing with android devices.
Nothing 1 earbuds integrated with 570mAH battery which last for 5.7 hours along with ANC and without ANC it lasts up to 6 hours. Its case provides 24 hours battery life and without ANC up to 34 hours. It can be charged wirelessly using Qi-compatible chargers in 2.5 hours and with wired USB-C takes 52 minutes for charging.
Pricing and Availability
Nothing 1 Earbuds is going to be available in 45 countries including the US, Europe, and the UK for $99 from 17th August. There is also a limited drop on 31st July at 14:00 BST on Nothing’s website. And in India, it will be available for Rs. 5,999 on Flipkart from 17th August.
