OnePlus Nord 2 5G – Market Friendly
The original OnePlus Nord was the company’s attempt to make the company’s signature OnePlus experience more affordable to the general public. People enjoyed the Nord, as it turned out. In stark contrast to the unlucky OnePlus X, it became one of the OnePlus’ most successful smartphones in numerous markets.
As a result, it’s no wonder that OnePlus is gearing up for round two. The new OnePlus Nord 2 5G, which debuted today alongside the OnePlus Buds Pro, is the company’s latest attempt to make the trademark OnePlus experience more accessible.
The OnePlus Nord 2 is the genuine successor to the original Nord, and it will coexist with the OnePlus Nord CE 5G, which was just released. The positioning of the Nord CE beside the original Nord was a little hazy, but now that the original Nord has been replaced by the Nord 2, OnePlus’s mid-range lineup for 2021 is much clearer.
The OnePlus series in the regions where it is sold begins with the Nord CE, followed by the Nord 2, and then the OnePlus 9R, OnePlus 9, and OnePlus 9 Pro. The OnePlus Nord 2 introduces various features that were important selling factors for the OnePlus 9R and OnePlus 9, causing the OnePlus 9R and OnePlus 9 to face an existential crisis.
Nord 2 specs and features
MediaTek Processor For First Time
The OnePlus Nord 2 has a few standout features. The largest change is the switch to a MediaTek processor, which makes it the first handset from the firm to use a processor other than Qualcomm’s. In terms of overall performance, the MediaTek Dimensity 1200 is a flagship-grade SoC that comes close to the Snapdragon 870. The Nord 2 is now classified as a “flagship,” moving it above the “mid-range” category.
OnePlus also touts many AI-related optimizations on the Nord 2, which were developed in close collaboration with MediaTek and allow them to market the Dimensity 1200 with the term “AI.” AI Video Enhancement improves the brightness, color, and contrast of shot video content; AI Photo Enhancement recognizes 22 different scenes and adjusts parameters accordingly; AI Color Boost enhances the color and gradience of images and video content (on YouTube, VLC, MX Player Pro for now); and AI Resolution Boost upscales low res content (on YouTube, Instagram for now).
Camera and Sony IMX 766 Sensor
Another highlight is the Nord 2’s usage of a Sony IMX 766 sensor with OIS. This 50MP sensor can be found in the ultra-wide camera on the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro, as well as in the ultra-wide camera with the freeform lens on the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro. With the exception of the freeform ultrawide lens, OnePlus has included this sensor in the Nord 2’s main camera.
The OnePlus 9 series was acclaimed for having a superb ultra-wide camera experience, so the OnePlus Nord 2 has a lot to live up to. There’s also an 8MP ultrawide camera and a 2MP monochrome sensor on the rear. There’s also a 32MP selfie camera, which is the greatest MP count on a OnePlus phone to date.
Warp Charging and Battery
Keeping the conversation going, there’s also 65W Warp Charge fast charging, which promises a 0-100 percent charge for the 4500 mAh battery in under 35 minutes. We’ve seen this on a few different smartphones, and it’s insanely fast, to the point where charging your phone is no longer a chore. The phone also modifies its charging schedule at night, owing to software, to avoid spending too much time at 100% when charging overnight. Dual 5G SIM slots are also included.
Display and Body
The design and display are reminiscent of the original Nord. The display is the same as the original Nord, with a 6.43-inch FHD+ AMOLED flat display and a refresh rate of 90Hz. In terms of design, the phone has a glass sandwich design with Gorilla Glass 5 on the front and back, as well as a polycarbonate mid-frame.
There’s no headphone jack, and there’s no wireless charging, just like the original. The device does not have an IP classification, although it can tolerate light spills.
Operating System
OxygenOS 11.3 is pre-installed on the Nord 2. Additional customization, gestures, and gaming-friendly modifications, such as the new OnePlus Games App, are all included in OxygenOS 11.3’s release. Two years of major Android upgrades and three years of security updates will be provided for the OnePlus Nord 2 5G.
