Panasonic unveiled the TOUGHBOOK G2 today, the company’s newest Windows 10 convertible tablet. The Panasonic TOUGHBOOK G2 is totally tough, but it’s also modular, and it’s designed for the most extreme conditions. With its detachable form factor, it’s comparable to a Surface Book, but it’s capable of much more. Indeed, TOUGHBOOKs appear to be able to accomplish everything.
They have 4G LTE connectivity with FirstNet band 14 and band 48, a screen brightness that goes up to 1,000 nits and down to two nits, a built-in pen, and more. The screen can be used with gloves, in the rain, and in a variety of other circumstances. All of this is necessary since it must be able to function in every situation and under any circumstance.
Law enforcement, the military, and others use TOUGHBOOKs. If you’re in a dark environment like a war zone and don’t want to be seen, the screen may be dimmed to two nits and night vision can be used. Every feature serves a certain purpose.
Expansion packs, or xPAKs, are one of the Panasonic TOUGHBOOK G2’s standout features. This results in a modular architecture with three bays for an xPAK. One lets you add a second SSD, while others let you add features like a barcode scanner, a thermal camera, and HF-RFID. There are 36 distinct xPAK combinations available, all of which may be field changed. Naturally, the battery is hot-swappable, which means you can replace it without having to turn off the gadget.
Craig Jackowski, Group Manager, Product Management at Panasonic said:
“The TOUGHBOOK team continues to innovate and lead the rugged industry with a relentless focus on providing world-class hardware, software, professional services and turn-key solutions for our enterprise, mission-critical channel partners and customers”
“The new TOUGHBOOK G2 delivers next-level versatility for enterprise mobile computing, with vertical solution-based customization combined with enhanced technology features such as increased performance and storage capabilities, wireless enhancements and backwards compatibility, to make the TOUGHBOOK G2 a trusted tool for enterprise workers in the harshest working environments.”
The Panasonic TOUGHBOOK G2 has a 10.1-inch screen and a Core i5-10310U or Core i7-10810U CPU, thus it’s still a 10th-generation laptop. The base model includes 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD, but these can be upgraded to 32GB and 1TB, respectively. It also comes with 88dB speakers; once again, this is all about being able to operate in any situation.
