According to XDA Developers, the JioBook, a 4G-ready low-cost laptop, maybe the next device Reliance Jio. According to the reports, the laptop will run Android OS (could be dubbed to ‘Jio OS’) and be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 665 processor, which includes 4G-LTE connectivity thanks to the Snapdragon X12 modem.
According to the report, Jio is collaborating with Bluebank Communication Technology, which is an engineering firm that develops mobile devices and applications for third parties. The report by XDA Developers is based on documents they checked and includes pictures of the alleged laptop.
However, it adds that the laptop is still in production and that the company is still working on the hardware. It could also come with a “recycled keyboard with a Windows key.” The report also includes a live image of how the laptop will appear when it makes its first appearance.
Reliance Jio already selling two JioPhone devices, so expanding into the laptop market could make sense for the company, particularly if it can offer 4G-LTE connectivity. The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the value of the internet, and a low-cost laptop with continuous internet access could appeal to a wide range of users.
In terms of Android OS, it should be noted that the Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 processor does not support Windows 10. Since Qualcomm chipset support in Windows 10 is restricted, even if the laptop is released, it could be an Android-powered device, which would be interesting to see. According to the report, the laptop is also pre-loaded with Jio’s applications.
Given that the device is still in production, it is impossible to predict when it will release. According to the reports, assembly for the product could begin in May 2021, but the exact release date is undisclosed.
