The Co-Founder of Wikipedia, Larry Sanger in a July 2021 interview with LockdownTV claimed that Wikipedia is not trustworthy and is being used to push propaganda. And also claims that Wikipedia’s information on Joe Biden and the Biden-Ukraine conspiracy theory are such examples.

Larry, who co-founded Wikipedia in 2001 alongside Jimmy Wales said, “Wikipedia cannot be relied upon as a reliable source of the truth”. However, he seemed to defend the original vision of Wikipedia as an accessible “open-source” project. He also said that Wikipedia provides a “reliable establishment point of view on pretty much anything. But can you trust it to always give you the truth? Well, it depends on what you think the truth is.”

Here’s the full interview of Larry Sanger with LockdownTV, where he claimed that “Wikipedia is not trustworthy”:

Larry further told LockdownTV that “If you take a look at the Biden’s article, it has very little by way of the concerns that Republicans have had about him. So if you want to have anything remotely resembling the Republican point of view about Biden, you’re not going to get it from the article.”

He contended that there must be at least a paragraph dedicated to Biden’s Ukraine scandal from the 2020 Presidential election as an example of how Biden’s page “reads like a defense counsel’s brief.”

At the time of writing, there are two paragraphs on the Ukraine controversy and its political implications on Joe Biden’s Wikipedia page. That section was edited on July 18, four days just after Larry’s interview. However, the only change was a consolidation of everything that already referenced Ukraine in the article into the same paragraph – in this case, a sentence clarifying that there was no evidence of wrongdoing on Biden’s part – rather than anything new being added in.

Larry Sanger also indicated to marketing firms that write or edit certain articles to control the public opinion of their clients. “Wikipedia is known now by everyone to have a lot of influence in the world, So there’s a very big, nasty, complex game being played behind the scenes to make the article say what somebody wants them to say,” he said.

Don’t forget to comment down your opinion on Larry Sanger’s claim about Wikipedia and stay tuned for further updates.
