Wipeout fans will be pleased to hear that a new title is on its way. The WipEout Rush is a card-based mobile game in which you manage a squad of opponents rather than actively controlling anti-gravity ships. The game is set to be released in 2022 on iOS and android devices. It also features an original soundtrack by Alastair Lindsay, a veteran Sony sound designer, and composer.
Wipeout Rush includes over 60 ships from the Wipeout franchise. The single-player game features 12 championship cups set in five different locales, each with its own set of tracks, as well as a tale written in comic book style. Rogue claims you’ll be able to play at 60 frames per second.
Matt Casamassina on WipEout Rush
“If I want that visceral, immersive, intense racing experience, I’ll find it waiting on PlayStation,” Rogue CEO Matt Casamassina told IGN. “But at the same time, we’re delighted that we could rethink wipeout for mobile with some fun new play mechanics and gorgeous visuals.”
It may not be the full-fledged Wipeout experience that long-time Wipeout fans hoped for on the PS5, but it could help resurrect a series that has been a part of PlayStation’s DNA for almost a quarter-century.
