Cross play Between PC and Consoles
Cross-play between PC and console gamers will be available in Battlefield 2042, with various restrictions and opt-outs.
Owners of PCs, PlayStation 5 consoles, and Xbox Series X/S consoles will be able to play together, with the option to combine PC and console groups if desired.
Separately from other platforms, PS4 and Xbox One console users can also play together. This makes it reasonable, given that last-gen platforms only support 64 players instead of 128.
Otherwise, EA says in a recent EA Answers blog post, the PS4 and Xbox One experiences should be similar to those available on current-gen consoles, including dynamic weather events and environmental threats. However, the playable area of maps will be different, in order to accommodate half as many people playing on earlier systems.
Cross-Commerce available
Battlefield 2042 will have cross-platform progression as well as “cross-commerce,” which means that purchases made on PlayStation will be available on PC and Xbox as well.
The technical playtest for the game will now take place “later this summer” to include cross-play testing.
