At The Game Awards 2021, Google reveals its plan to bring Android Games to Windows PCs starting next year. This will give players access to hundreds of Android titles from their workstations.
Google Play App designed by Google as google play games will be available in the year 2022 and enable gamers to access games from Google Play and run them on Windows PCs, laptops, and tablets. Players can also resume games on a desktop PC, after playing them on a phone, tablet, or Chromebook.
Greg Hartrell, product director for Google Play games said- “From 2022, players can experience their favorite Google Play games on more devices: seamlessly switching between a phone, tablet, Chromebook, and soon, Windows PC.”
He also added that Google’s new initiative “brings the best of Google Play Games to more laptops and desktops, and we are thrilled to expand our platform for players to enjoy their favorite Android games even more.”
Google Play Games Has Lot To Offer
So far, Google teased Google Play Games’ debut on Windows in 2022. Through a standalone application, Google is bringing the Google Play Games platform to Windows.
However, it is not confirmed whether all Google Play titles would be available when the new service arrives on PC. But Google promises that you can play your favorite mobile games on your Windows machine. Also, the games will be played locally instead of streaming to the cloud.
“This will be a native Windows app distributed by Google, which will support Windows 10 and up. It will not involve game streaming” said Hartrell.
As Chrome OS is not really meant for gaming and Gaming on Chromebooks does not always give you the best experience. Usually, low-end Chromebooks are commercialized more for work and study. So, this new initiative by the tech giant will be a game-changer.
Moreover, Google spokesperson Alex Garcia-Kummert confirmed that the company built this app on its own. This means Google hasn’t teamed up with Microsoft, BlueStacks, or anybody else here.
However, it is not like Google’s plan to bring Android apps and games to Windows is unleaked. Earlier this year, a document from the Epic v. Apple trial revealed that Google would first bring “emulated, native and streamed games” to Windows, starting in the year 2022.
Furthermore, other tech giants are also a part of this race. Microsoft has partnered with Amazon to bring fewer Android apps and games to Windows 11 PC. It is possible through the Amazon Appstore.
Windows users can install apps and games from there. But the native Google Play support will not be officially available via Microsoft feature.
This loophole has turned out to be a big opportunity for other tech giants like Google.BlueStacks also provides BlueStacks X which is a freeway for playing Android games in your browser. Currently, BlueStacks also focuses on bringing Android games to Windows.
However, the details of the complete specifications for Windows PCs to participate are not shared by the company yet. But Greg Hartrell promises that they will let us know soon.
