An unannounced smartphone from Motorola codenamed Motorola Athena was just spotted on the Google Play Console and Geekbench. The smartphone’s marketing name may be Motorola Defy. But that’s all there is to it. So far, no more Motorola Defy disclosures have surfaced. That all changes today, as we now have some details on Motorola’s Defy series unveiling.

For those who don’t know, the original Motorola Defy smartphone debuted way back in 2010 and was among the first Android phones to offer dust and water resistance.

Motorola Defy to launch in international markets

Motorola could soon debut its Defy series, according to industry source Ishan Agarwal (via 91mobiles). It’s possible that more than one Defy smartphone may be released. Defy, he claims, might be released in markets other than India. That’s a letdown for Motorola lovers across the country. However, he has not specified which markets Motorola intends to debut the Defy smartphone line in. We believe it is safe to assume that the Defy series is on the way, given that Ishan’s disclosures have been mostly correct in the past.

Expected specifications

Motorola might be planning to relaunch its 'Defy series' later this year

The Motorola Defy (Athena) is listed on the Google Play Console as having the Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 SoC, 4GB of RAM, and Android 10 as its operating system. The phone will have an HD+ quality display, according to the listing. The Motorola Defy’s Geekbench listing validates the processor model, RAM size, and OS version mentioned on the Google Play Console. Defy series appears to be a mid-range smartphone based on these features.

Given that the first Motorola Defy featured a rugged design, it’s possible that the next Defy smartphone will have a dustproof and water-resistant design, as well as a rugged build that can handle accidental drops. Having said that, this is simply an opinion.

Hopefully, we will know more about Defy series as it appears on more certifications and benchmarking platforms.
