Super update for GeForce RTX 30 Laptop GPUs
According to Twitter leaker Greymon55, NVIDIA is preparing a SUPER update for its GeForce RTX 30 Laptop GPUs. The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 30 SUPER range is scheduled to arrive in early 2022, implying a probable announcement around CES 2022.
The leaker particularly mentions the GeForce RTX 30 Laptop GPUs receiving the SUPER upgrade. There is presently no desktop ‘SUPER’ refresh in the works, but we can’t rule out the possibility of a GeForce RTX 30 SUPER Refresh for desktop, because you never know with NVIDIA.
In terms of the laptop range, a prior leak from Lenovo was released on Reddit and included two SUPER GPUs, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 SUPER (16 GB GDDR6) and the GeForce RTX 3070 SUPER (8 GB GDDR6).
Videocardz has also speculated that the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 30 SUPER range may end up being powered by the Ampere GA103 GPU. The GA103 GPU SKU was rumored several times and was a more optimized gaming chip that was supposed to sit between the GA104 and the GA102.
However, no graphics card is currently based on this chip and it appeared to have been discontinued. This may be an opportunity for NVIDIA to revive its GA103 GPU, which will offer both an increased core count and better power optimizations than existing chips.
So yet, this is merely hearsay, but a SUPER update seems plausible given that next-generation GPUs are still a long way off.
