Previous leaks suggested that OnePlus won’t be launching the “T” variants of its newly launched 9-series phones, but that’s may not be the case with its affordable OnePlus 9R. According to a report from Android Central, OnePlus is planning to launch the OnePlus 9 RT sometime in October this year with Oxygen OS 12 based on Android 12 and some upgrades.
What does the new OnePlus 9 RT have to offer?
As per Android Central’s report, it is safe to assume that the OnePlus 9 RT (may not be the final name) is a slightly upgraded version of the OnePlus 9R which will launch with a Snapdragon 870 chipset, 120Hz OLED display, a decent 4,500mAh battery, and the very first-time OxygenOS 12 out of the box.
The same report also states that the 9 RT will include the 50MP Sony IMX766 as its main camera upgrading from the 48MP Sony IMX586 camera found on the OnePlus 9R.
Nevertheless, the most intriguing aspect about this new phone is that it is said to be the first OnePlus device to ship with OxygenOS 12 straight out of the box which is presumed to resemble Oppo’s ColorOS skin. According to the report, OxygenOS 12 will also contain some new features, including floating windows, a theme store, along with a Private Safe that will allow users to secure files in a password-protected folder.
As per Android Central, the OnePlus 9 RT will be limited to launch in China and India exclusively (just like the 9R), as there are no existing plans to make it available in North American or European markets.
In this report, it’s also declared that the first Android 12 Open Beta from OnePlus will arrive in about a month. OnePlus has already started recruiting for the closed beta of that same update.
