Since 2016, OnePlus has released an improved version of its current flagship phone every year. It all started with the OnePlus 3T and continued without a hitch until the OnePlus 8T was released last year but unfortunately this streak come to an end in 2021.
As OnePlus has now decided to put all the rumors to rest by confirming that no T series flagship will be released this year, which means the OnePlus 9T and 9T Pro will not be released later this year. The rumor mill had suggested that there would be no Pro T-series model, which wasn’t surprising given that there wasn’t one last year either. This all happened as a part of the unified OS announcement that underwent earlier today.
However, it does make sense. For one thing, the current worldwide chip shortage makes the launch of any large-scale smartphone difficult. In addition, OnePlus’ portfolio is becoming increasingly crowded, with phones like the OnePlus Nord 2, OnePlus 9R, and OnePlus 8T sharing many features. Things will only become more complex if you throw a OnePlus 9T into the mix.
The company states that there will be no OnePlus 9T, but that there will be “other releases,” and while they did not specify what those releases would be, it is safe to assume that the OnePlus 9RT is still in the works.
The company may also be working on the OnePlus Buds Z2, a pair of new completely wireless earphones that will be identical to its predecessor and may have active noise cancellation. Both of these devices are expected to be revealed in October. We’ll keep you updated when more information becomes available about these gadgets.
