Original Article: On Thursday, at Square Enix Presents Spring 2021 digital game showcase, the publisher shared the new trailers for new Hitman and Just Cause mobile games along with some major updates regarding its upcoming projects. There’s no release date just yet for mobile entries in both major game franchises but are expected to be released on iOS and Android devices sometime in 2021.
Hitman Sniper Assassins coming in 2021
Update: During Square Enix’s E3 showcase the official title for the game was revealed, called Hitman Sniper: The Shadows. It will come to iOS and Android later in 2021 as a free-to-play mobile spin-off without hero Agent 47, developed by Hitman Go developer Square Enix Montreal. Meaning instead of playing as Agent 47, you’ll be playing as a new group of assassins – Soji, Kiya, Kolzak, Knight, and Stone – activated by the International Contract Agency (ICA) following the rise of a new criminal network. Original Article continues: “Hitman Sniper Assassins” (working title) is a follow-up to the Hitman: Sniper mobile game released back in 2015 from Square Enix Montreal. However, it’s not clear from the teaser trailer below what, how its gameplay is going to be like. But according to its description Sniper Assassins will have a “wholly original Hitman story, with new playable assassins and brand-new gameplay features.”
Just Cause: Mobile coming in 2021
Announced at The Game Award 2020, Just Cause: Mobile is a free-to-play third-person shooter with 30-player competitive multiplayer and four-player co-op game modes. Its latest cinematic trailer didn’t show off gameplay, fans can still expect fully voiced characters and in-game cutscenes. The game experience will be based on the franchise’s trademark grappling, gliding, and shooting mechanics. And according to the description, it will feature some well-known characters from the series like Rico Rodriguez and Annika Svensson, who will provide missions and intel.
Space Invaders
Additionally, Square Enix has also released a teaser for an old favorite “Space Invaders AR” mobile game. As you may have guessed from the name ‘AR’ you will have to go into the streets to play this one, but as there’s no release date for it just yet, interested players can sign up on the website to take part in playtests.
Other Major Announcements from Square Enix Presents Spring 2021
Now, with announcing new mobile game titles Square Enix also announced in the event that the “Life is Strange: True Colors”, is coming in September 2021 and that it will be a single release rather than being an episodic one like its predecessors. Lastly, the studio also confirmed that the PS5 and PC title formerly known as “Project Athia” will now officially called “Forspoken.” Forspoken is expected to release sometime in 2022 and its lead character is portrayed by the 2019 film Charlie’s Angels actress Ella Balinska.
