Whenever someone thing about the dark or light mode, the only thing that comes to their mind is darker (black) or lighter (white) visuals. Turns out Microsoft doesn’t think that way, as taking things to a next-level tech giants have added a separate set of soundscapes or system sounds for light and dark modes in its latest Windows 11 OS.

After some users noticed this difference in notification sounds between the dark and light modes on the new OS. Microsoft in a conversation with Bleeping Computer confirmed that for the first time, it has created different versions of system sounds where dark mode has a calmer sound and light mode has a sharper sound.

Microsoft revealed that this time the system sound in dark mode is smoother, with a rounder wavelength than sound alerts in previous windows.

“Windows 10 sounds were sharp, literally created with sharp wavelengths. In Windows 11, we have focused on making the technology calm. In order to do this, we needed to reevaluate our soundscape to also be calm,” a Microsoft spokesperson said.

Now you might be thinking about why the company applied the calmer sound in dark mode (or vice versa) instead of it in both. Well while answering this query Microsoft spokesperson said,

“We introduced light and dark sound options so that people who may have low visibility or no vision can still experience light and dark themes audibly. Themed sounds improve productivity by matching your working style through your theme. Dark Sounds help you stay in focus while Light Sounds ensure you’re always engaged.”

To access the light mode sounds go to C: WindowsMedia folder and for the dark mode sounds go to C: Windows Mediadm folder. You can also listen to the 10 new sounds for dark and light mode for Microsoft Windows 11 here embeded by BleepingComputer.
