Few weeks after shutting down Discord’s music bot Groovy, Google’s Youtube is now turning its attention to Rythm, the most popular Discord music bot with more than 560 million users.
According to Yoav, the bot’s developer, the service is powered by over 4TB of RAM and 1,000 CPU cores. Rythm Discord Music Bot should be shut down within seven days, according to Google’s cease-and-desist letter, and the creators are complying and have announced on their official site that the bot will shut down working on September 15, 2021.
Rythm was launched in 2016 as a small project. Little did they know that it will be among one of the most popular bots on Discord, currently installed on 20 million servers as reported by The Verge.
Discord working on alternatives
According to the website’s FAQ, premium customers who have not utilized a “substantial amount” of their term will receive a refund in one to two months. Meanwhile, the bot will continue to operate on Discord, where it will house the group’s newsletter and provide updates on community activities, goods, and so on.
However, it appears that YouTube and Discord are working on a solution. For the past ten months, Discord has been testing a social party feature that allows Discord users to form a YouTube viewing party. It’s not a direct substitute for Discord’s music bots, but it will be an official way to stream YouTube material inside Discord if the feature is ever released.
“We wanted to thank everyone for choosing Rythm and believing in us for all these years,” the website said.
