Blizzard Entertainment in a blog post on May 27, said addressing the public that they’re canceling BlizzCon 2021 due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and strict rules in California for public gatherings. But intends to hold a “worldwide event” sometime in mid-2022.

The studio recommended that the “rules in California around in-person gatherings proceed to develop” and the situation with the pandemic “fluctuates throughout the world,” and thus, they won’t hold BlizzCon this year. Along with announcing that instead of BlizzCon 2021, they intend to hold a “worldwide event” at some point in mid-2022 that will incorporate “smaller in-person gatherings.”

Here’s what Saralyn Smith, executive producer of BlizzCon said on the event’s official site,

“Building an in-person BlizzCon is an epic and complex affair that requires numerous long periods of planning. The continuous intricacies and vulnerabilities of the pandemic have affected our capacity to appropriately push ahead on a large number of these fronts, and at last, we’re currently beyond where we’d have the option to develop the sort of occasion we’d want to make for you in November.”

He added,

“However, we would prefer not to let too long go by before we connect with everybody once more. So meanwhile, we’re arranging a worldwide occasion for the early part of next year, consolidating an online show as per our new BlizzConline with smaller public gatherings, and we’ll share more as our arrangements come together.”

Well, Smith doesn’t confirm the exact date for the global event planned for 2022, but it’s highly likely that they will continue to create far more curated, smart, all-access events for gamers around the world where they can show their latest creations.
