Fukuoka Prefectural Police has arrested Junji Matsumoto, a 59 years old unemployed Japanese man on the suspicion of killing his parents and keeping their corpses in a glass door industrial refrigerator. Junji admitted that he killed his parents because they were interrupting his anime sessions (thanks AnimeHunch).
A relative called the police after they were unable to contact the family for some time. Police found the bodies of the couple at their home, inside the refrigerator. The refrigerator was unplugged and taped shut. Police said that the bodies were starting to decay and there were no signs of external injury.
After killing his parents Junji left on his bicycle and stayed in various hotels in Shizuoka and Yamaguchi prefectures, before leaving for Kyoto. Police said Junji Matsumoto was arrested on Sunday, July 4th in the parking lot of a hotel in Shimogyo Ward, Kyoto City, Sankei Shimbun reported.
Matsumoto confessed to killing his parents, his father Hirokazu Matsumoto, 88, and his mother Makie, 87 on the night of June 20. He killed his parents because of the stress of taking care of them. His father was hospitalized as he fell from a bicycle and his mother was in a wheelchair.
He said, “Every time my parents asked me to take care of them, I had to interrupt the anime I was watching. I couldn’t stand it anymore”. He lost his patience when his father Hirokazu asked him to take him to the bathroom. He killed his father and as his mother saw witnessed the whole thing, he killed her too.
“During a good scene in an anime, my father repeatedly called for me to take care of him,” Junji Matsumoto said (via GamingBible). “Because he complained about me, I killed him.”
He further explained that her mother “saw him killing her husband, and he felt sorry for her to be left alone”.
