Amazon has always been among the most innovative companies of all time, not just in the e-commerce sector but also in the technology industry. And after making its boldest move yet into the entertainment industry by acquiring the MGM Studio, the e-commerce giant Amazon has now launched something completely new in the industry called ‘Amazon Sidewalk’.

Amazon Sidewalk is the latest feature that the company will be launching on June 8, reports ArsTechnica. It is a shared network that will help devices such as Echo, Alexa, security cameras, motion sensors, and others work in a better way at home. Starting from June 8, this feature will enable the users to share their bandwidth with neighbors.

Amazon Sidewalk is free of cost for customers and is restricted to share only 500MB of internet data in a month. This means that Sidewalk will not consume a lot of internet data from your Wi-Fi and will be sharing only 1/4th bandwidth at 80kbps with neighbors and 500MB is probably negligible these days.

This might be an automatic enrollment without the user’s knowledge. But if you want to opt-out of Amazon Sidewalk then you just need to follow some steps as mentioned below:

  • Open the Alexa app
  • Open more and select settings
  • Select account settings
  • Select Amazon Sidewalk
  • Then turn Amazon Sidewalk off

Here’s how Amazon has described its new feature in a dedicated webpage;

“Amazon Sidewalk is a shared network that helps devices like Amazon Echo devices, Ring Security Cams, outdoor lights, motion sensors, and Tile trackers work better at home and beyond the front door. When enabled, Sidewalk can unlock unique benefits for your device, support other Sidewalk devices in your community, and even locate pets or lost items.”

There is no doubt that everything has its pros and cons and it will also have.

So, this was all about the latest update. Let us know your views on Amazon’s latest feature in the comment section and stay tuned for further updates.
