Peaky Blinders Feature Film will begin filming in 2023

Recently, Steven Knight, the writer, and creator of Peaky Blinders have shared an update on the production of the feature film that will conclude the series while talking to the panel at the BFI London Film Festival.

Across the globe, Peaky Blinders has been keeping fans glued to their screens since September 2013. Till now the show has released its five seasons and the fans are eagerly waiting for the release of the sixth.

Now as reported by Variety, Steven revealed that the Peaky Blinders feature film is expected to begin its production in 2023 (18 months from now). He also confirmed that the editing and shooting of the sixth and final season of the popular British series is almost over.

And they are all set for the premiere of the season in the fall of 2022. After the end of season 6, Knight will start work on the feature film which will mark the end of the series.

“And then, I am going to write the feature film that will be directed and shot in Birmingham,” Knight told the round table. “And it will most likely be the end of the journey for Peaky Blinders as we know it,” he said.

Also, Knight said that there might be “shows linked” to Peaky Blinders universe to come later. However, he does not refer to them as “spinoffs”. Also, he would not continue to oversee them and “pass on the baton” and let a new writer try to find another place to go in this world.

So, let’s wait for the movie to arrive to have an idea of what is left at the end of the story. And how it will continue in the future with a spinoff.

The creator once mentioned the movie Peaky Blinders when he said:

“I think it’s going to be a fitting conclusion to the story told so far, but from it, there will be things I don’t really call spinoffs, but there will be other TV shows that I hope will come out of it, that will continue to tell the story of this part of society and this family.”

The British period drama series is set in Birmingham England in 1919. This series follows the exploits of the Shelby crime family in the direct aftermath of the first world war. Peaky Blinders gang is led by their ambitious and highly cunning boss Tommy Shelby who is barely nearly played by someone else.

The series is about the growth and expansion of Peaky Blinders and Shelby’s journey into the world as dangerous as his ambition. Peaky Blinders features an assembled cast lead by Cillian Murphy, Sam Neill, Helen McCrory, Paul Anderson, Tom Hardy, Paddy Considine, Adrien Brody, Aidan Gillen, and Anya Taylor-Joy.

The show premiered in September 2013 as a BBC original drama but its popularity prompted Netflix to buy the rights and rework it to a Netflix original series. It received many nominations and even won the Best Drama Series at the BAFTA Awards in 2018.

All five seasons of the popular series are on Netflix and the sixth and final season is planned to arrive in 2022.

Star Sophie Rundle, who plays Ada Shelby, also teased what was going to happen with her character in an interview with Digital Spy, saying,

“She’s just cooler than ever. I think that Steven has said that this is going to be the last, so you can imagine – it’s going to be all guns blazing. It’s always, you know, really rock and roll. But it’s the last series, so everyone’s going to be really going for it. It feels exciting and sad. We’re all really pleased that we’re getting to make it and tell more of the story. But yeah, Ada’s just as badass as ever. She always is.”

However, there are still a few years to go to see how the story of such a popular show “Peaky Blinders” will end. Also, Knight said that there will be more stories around this world. So, we can’t comment on what will happen next in the future.
