According to a report from Bloomberg, Apple is planning to announce new iPads with a number of updates as soon as April. Reportedly company is updating its iPad Pros with a new processor and better cameras, its cheapest iPad with a new thinner and lighter design along with its iPad mini with a larger screen, and a refresh of the base iPad.
New iPad Pros launching as soon as April
According to a report, Apple‘s new 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pros are expected to have a similar design as of the current iPad Pro lineup released last March but have a new and better processor (probably a new A-series chip) that will be “on par” with the speedy M1 chip featured in Apple’s newest MacBook Airs, Pros, and Mac mini.
Additionally, the 12.9-inch iPad Pro is expected to have a Mini-LED display, a first for any Apple product. The mini-LED display will offer a higher contrast ratio and brightness than OLED screens. Apple has also tested these new iPad Pros with a Thunderbolt port, according to Bloomberg, enabling it to transfer data at a faster speed than the current one with a USB-C port.
In testing, the new iPad Pros have used a Thunderbolt connector, the same port on the latest Macs with custom Apple processors. The port doesn’t require new chargers, but it would enable connectivity with additional external monitors, hard drives, and other peripherals. It’s also faster at syncing data than the USB-C technology used in the current models.
New iPad mini and refreshed base model iPad launching as soon as this year
Apple is also planning to refresh its base model iPad and launch a new iPad mini with a larger screen than the 7.9-inch display. And could launch as soon as this year reports Bloomberg.
Apple plans to refresh its cheapest iPad aimed at students with a thinner and lighter design later this year. It’s also preparing to launch a new iPad mini with a larger screen as early as this year, an increase from the 7.9-inch display used since the first model. The iPad mini was last upgraded in 2019 with support for the Apple Pencil stylus and a faster processor.
