Update: Adult Swim has recently released the English dub trailer for the Fena: Pirate Princess Anime which is set to debut on August 14.
Original Article: New Crunchyroll original shojo-inspired samurai anime series Fena: Pirate Princess is ready to hit the screens on August 14th worldwide. Co-Producers Crunchyroll and Adult Swim have announced that the first two episodes will be featured in the English language on Adult Swim’s very own Toonami anime block while Crunchyroll will provide the subtitled Japanese language version worldwide. However, Japan will only be able to watch the series in October this year.
The series will tell feature Fena Houtman, a jolly orphan finding her way sailing through the high seas with a team of Japanese samurai to unearth the secrets her family has left and unlock the reason behind her being an orphan in an eighteenth-century plot. She will have an adventurous journey ahead where she will fight pirates and overcome other dangers coming in her way. She is definitely going Pirates of the Caribbean way.
Production I.G. known for Ghost in the Shell, Eden of the East, and Psycho-Pass 3 is acting as the production studio. Asako Kuboyama is handling the screenplay while director Kazuto Nakasawa (animated anime sequence in Kill Bill Vol.1) is working on the story with the crew.
Show’s director Nakasawa (B: The Beginning) describes the series as, “Fena: Pirate Princess is a story of casting oneness, redefining destinies and discovering relationship and goals”. He interprets this story as a stunning collaboration of two of the most recognized anime genres out there, shonen and shojo.
The whole English dub cast has been revealed (via ANN) which includes Brittany Cox, Robb Moreira, Nicholas Corda, Anjali Kunapaneni for Fen, Yukimaru, Shitan, and Karin respectively. As for Japanese dubbing for the same role we have Asami Seto, Ryota Suzuki, Takahiro Sakurai, Aoi Yuki.
Here’s Crunchyroll’s official synopsis of the series:
