Google today announced the Pixel 4a 5G during its “Launch Night In” fall hardware event. Google Pixel 4a 5G is a variant of the budget phone Pixel 4a which the tech giant released back in August. This device costs $499, $150 more than the standard 4A. But I think that’s pretty ok if you’re getting a 5G support with various new notable hardware differences beyond its upgraded cellular modem. The phone is launching on Oct. 15th in Japan, with 8 more countries to follow in November, India not included.
Specs of Google Pixel 4a 5G
The dual-nanoSIM Google Pixel 4a 5G runs on latest Android 11 and features a 6.2-inch FHD+ OLED display over standard 4a’s 5.8-inch display with 413ppi pixel density and also with Corning Glass 3 protection. This device has always-on display tech, HDR support, and full 24-bit depth for 16-million colors. The device is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G SoC with Adreno 620 GPU, paired with 6GB of LPDDR4x RAM. And has 128GB internal storage that isn’t expandable via microSD card.
Camera details of Pixel 4a 5G
Google Pixel 4a 5G comes with a dual rear camera setup that is very much improved over the 4a. Dual stepup includes a 12.2-megapixel primary sensor with 1.4 μm pixel width, Autofocus with dual pixel phase detection, Optical + electronic image stabilization, and an ƒ/1.7 aperture, with a wide 77° field of view. Now the 16-megapixel secondary sensor offers 107° ultrawide field of view and ƒ/2.2 aperture with 1.0 μm pixel width.
And most important one which is for selfies and video chats, the Pixel 4a 5G features an 8-megapixel shooter at the front which is nested inside a punch hole and offers an f/2.0 lens. The phone supports video recording of up to 4K resolution at up to 60fps.
Sensors and Battery details
The device’s connectivity options include 5G, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, NFC, USB Type-C, and a 3.5mm headphone jack, something Google’s flagship phones now lack. Sensors on this device include an accelerometer, ambient light, barometer, gyroscope, magnetometer, and a proximity sensor. The phone includes a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor with a Google-designed Titan M security module. The device also features stereo speakers and two microphones.
The phone packs a 3,885mAh battery which supports 18W fast charging. But Like the Pixel 4A, this version also doesn’t have the wireless charging or water resistance ability. The phone measures 153.9×74.0x8.2mm and weighs 168 grams.
Price and Availability
The Google Pixel 4a 5G starts at $499 which is roughly Rs. 37,000. This phone will be limited to 5G markets such as Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Japan, Taiwan, the UK, and the US. The Pixel 4a 5G will launch first in Japan on October 15, and begin rolling out in other countries from November. Because the Pixel 4a 5G is limited to 5G markets it will not come to India.
The company has also announced the offers for its 5G smartphone customers, including 3 months of Google Stadia Pro and YouTube Premium, along with 100GB of Google One cloud storage, and also the Play Pass and Play Points. One can pre-order the Google Pixel 4a 5G from today on Google Store.
