“Guardians of the Galaxy” and the upcoming “The Suicide Squad” filmmaker James Gunn has recently revealed that he has talked with both Marvel and DC about a crossover between the two franchises particularly between two characters that he’s most familiar with i.e. Harley Quinn and Groot.

Marvel and DC characters have crossed over in comics (for a few special events) but chances of happening on the big screen and becoming the highest-grossing movie/series ever are highly unlikely (but not impossible). And in the same context, recently James told the ReelBlend podcast that:

“I would really be happy to do a Harley Quinn and Groot movie. Not only have I thought about that, but I have actually talked about that to the heads of both Marvel and DC. It’s like everybody’s open to everything, but whether anything would ever happen, who knows? But the idea of being able to bring Marvel and DC together in a movie, that would be fun for me.”

Gunn has also tweeted in response to these reports to clarify the situation regarding a potential Marvel/DC crossover movie. The filmmaker also talked to both studios about making a crossover, but it wasn’t about any specific characters. The director thinks he may have included Harley Quinn and Groot in his discussion with Kevin Feige, yet that wasn’t going to be the basis of a movie. Gunn’s original tweet is mentioned below:

Gunn has been known for tackling unconventional characters in his superhero movies, but a combination of both DC and Marvel would be challenging for several reasons. With the DCEU and the MCU both going strong, thanks to Zack Synder’s Justice League and Marvel’s Phase 4 which is digging into the Marvel Cinematic Multiverse (MCM), it’s unlikely Warner Bros. and Disney would collaborate since their superhero movies often go head to head at the box office.

Both franchises have huge fanbases. Strategically, it would just be too complicated to combine two massive franchises, but as Gunn in a tweet said “I don’t think it’s likely, but I don’t think it’s an impossibility either.” (not your fault Gunn every fan should be thinking this way right now!)

So before you leave do tell us what you think about this and which crossover you would like to see the most!
