OnePlus has established a reputation for phone cameras that are at best mediocre, however, with the OnePlus 9 Pro, it can turn that around. YouTuber Dave2D has accessed photos of what looks to be an OnePlus 9 Pro with noticeable Hasselblad branding. If correct, OnePlus obviously wants its camera technology to be taken seriously by buyers.
It’s not clear what the camera array will do, but it’s fair to say you’re not going to find a medium format Hasselblad sensor within. Two big sensors (standard and ultra-wide?) along with two much tiny cameras that may include a macro camera are shown in the photos. There is also what seems to be laser autofocus above the flash.
The array is straightforwardly comparable to the alleged base OnePlus 9 leaks, although the additional camera and laser, as well as the Hasselblad labeling, are missing from that rumored phone. Instead, it could get an “Ultrashort” name.
The Dave2D leak, along with its curved, 1440p 120Hz panel, also seems to support reports about the front. This unit features 11 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage (more likely to be 12 GB in shipping units).
It is not clear whether a Hasselblad collaboration will benefit or not. A big improvement to still shots were provided by Motorola’s Hasselblad-branded phone mod, but you were not about to overlook it for a studio-quality camera. This could be more about staying competitive (and attracting attention) than a big leap forward in mobile camera tech, just like Huawei’s long-running Leica partnership.
