Game listings for PlayStation 4 and Switch, titled “Prince of Persia Remake,” appeared briefly on Guatemalan retailer Max’s website. However, it was spotted by Twitter user @KenXyro before it could be removed.
Retailers often put games that they think might be coming out of their databases as placeholder entries all the time, and so it would be incredibly easy to brush this off as a bit of wishful thinking on Max’s part.
What gives more credence to this tweet from Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier
Who has a long history of reporting Ubisoft insider leaks, namely the Assassin’s Creed series. He claims that this remake is meant to be a “surprise announcement,” meaning that we could see it next month at the next Ubisoft Forward event.
There’s no telling exactly which Prince of Persia game is being remastered. It would be totally out of the left field for Ubisoft to remake the original trilogy that started in 1989, but anything is possible. More likely, the 2003 Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, the soft reboot of the series, or considering from the logo in the listings, the 2008 Prince of Persia.
Apart from the diabolical 2010 film and its tie-in game, The Forgotten Sands, Prince of Persia, has been missing in action since its reboot in 2008. The Assassin’s Creed series is partly to blame for this, as what was originally intended to be a simple spinoff of the Prince of Persia would become one of Ubisoft’s greatest properties.
If this leak is true, expect to hear about the Prince of Persia remake next month at the Ubisoft Forward event.
