Spotify reportedly has a new Snapchat-style Stories feature alongside some of its playlists. For example on its Christmas Hits playlist, in which some artists including Jennifer Lopez, Kelly Clarkson and Pentatonix can be seen using a series of short video clips to share their personal thoughts about the festive period and their songwriting process.

Firstly reported by Engadget, these types of stories have been spotted on the Tear Drop emo-rap playlist and a version of Megan Thee Stallion’s album (Good News).

One can access the videos by simply tapping on an icon on the top left of each supported playlist. Its interface will look familiar to anyone who’s ever watched an Instagram or Snapchat story.

Now Spotify has confirmed its new feature in its statement provided to Engadget, but said it was just a test and has stopped (confirming a wider release). “At Spotify, we routinely conduct a number of tests in an effort to improve our user experience,” a Spotify spokesperson said. “Some of those tests end up paving the path for our broader user experience and others serve only as an important learning. We have no further news to share on future plans at this time.”

As you can see Stories have now become an increasingly common sight across social media platforms and other services. Snapchat’s recent implementation and story format of Instagram is one of the best known, but other services including YouTube, Twitter, and even LinkedIn have implemented their own versions of this feature.
