Nvidia Resizable BAR Support will increase gaming performance by 10% on RTX 30 Series GPUs

Nvidia has introduced Resizable BAR (Base Address Register) support alongside the launch of the most affordable GeForce RTX 3060 graphics card. This PCIe-based feature allows users’ CPU to access all the GPU memory available at once, giving faster transfer of data in return, including textures, shaders, and geometry, which finally results in boosting your gaming performance up to 10-20%.

The new RTX 3060 will be the first to include this Resizable BAR support, with support for other RTX 30 series GPU, including the RTX 3090, RTX 3080, RTX 3070, and the RTX 3060 Ti, coming in late March in the form of downloadable VBIOS updates.

In order to utilize this new Resizable BAR support you don’t only need the right GPUs, but also need the right CPU and compatible motherboard. And as said by Nvidia in a press release “AMD’s new Zen 3 based Ryzen 5000 series and Intel’s 10th-gen with upcoming 11th-gen processors will be compatible for this feature”.

As for motherboards, Nvidia is working with various motherboard manufacturers to bring this support to all products available on the market. Manufacturers including “Asus, MSI, ASRock, Colorful, EVGA, Gigabyte, and MSI” have already started offering BIOS updates for selected motherboards to enable this support.

An increase in performance by Resizable BAR on Nvidia GPUs can be affected by resolution as it is totally game-dependent. As Nvidia says there are some “titles that see a decrease in performance after this.”

Keeping that in mind Nivida is testing this Resizable BAR support only for some titles (including AC Valhalla, Battlefield V, Borderlands 3, Forza Horizon 4, Gears 5, Metro Exodus, RDR 2, Watch Dogs: Legion) where the performance increase is excepted.
