Fruits Basket has finally finished airing and its sad departure has left a huge void in everyone’s heart. But the good news is that series producers have announced a “Fruits Basket Spinoff Series”.
Just after the last episode finished airing in Japan, a spinoff was announced on Twitter along with the announcement of a stage play. The Fruits Basket Spinoff Series is titled “Kyoko to Katsuya no Monogatari” which translates to “The Story of Kyoko and Katsuya”, where the story will be focussing on the parents of the show’s protagonist Tohru. A video was posted on Youtube describing the journey of its character along with the message of Thankyou.
The manga for Fruits Basket was authored by Natsuki Takaya and came out in 1998, and the anime started airing in 2001, but unfortunately, the show got only a single season. Fortunately for the fans of the series, a reboot was made. New Fruits Basket anime started airing in 2019 and after three seasons, has finally come to a close. The story is about Honda Tohru, an orphaned girl who accidentally got involved with the Souma family.
The members of the family have a curse, which turns them into zodiac animals when hugged by someone from the opposite gender. The story is heartwarming and recently the final season even became the highest-rated anime on MyAnimeList, surpassing shows like Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood and Attack On Titan.
As Tohru’s parents have died by the time, Fruits Basket’s story begins so the new spinoff “The Story of Kyoko and Katsuya” should serve as a prequel to the story. It is not yet clear whether the spinoff will be a series or an OVA. Though Fruits Basket Spinoff Series will come in 2022, the exact date for release is also not clear. But one thing is clear, this series has made its mark in anime history as one of the best anime ever made.
