A new Superman reboot is in woks at Warner Bros. Studio. with producer J.J. Abrams and writer Ta-Nehisi Coates, which reportedly going to introduce a Black actor as the Man of Steel, for the time first on the big screen.
First reported by Shadow and Act on Friday and then confirmed by Deadline, that Warner Bros. and DC are gearing up for a new reboot of the Superman film franchise. J.J. Abrams will produce this new film under his Bad Robot label alongside Hannah Minghella. With author and journalist Ta-Nehisi Coates writing the film and screenplay, the one who has written “Black Panther and Captain America series” for Marvel Comics, and has also received special thanks in the credits of “Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame”.
Any details about the plot have not been shared yet and there’s also no word on who will wear the red cape in this new reboot. However, Henry Cavill, who played the role of Superman in 2013’s Man of Steel, is reportedly keen to return as Superman but it looks like Warner Bros. and DC have some other plans for this Reboot.
Michael B. Jordan could be the next Superman
As The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that WB and DC want this reboot to be “A Black Superman story.” This rules out the possibility of Cavill’s return and rises a new possibility where we can see Michael B. Jordan becoming the next Man of Steel (aka Val-Zod from Eath-2), Jordan met with DC in 2019 to discuss a possible Superman movie and to express his interest in playing the role in future.
Michael. B. Jordan is also attached with the upcoming film of Black Panther director Ryan Coogler’s “Wrong Answer” written by Ta-Nehisi Coates. So it’s not impossible that we may see Jordan becoming the new Man of Steel.
Is a live-action DC multiverse is coming
Also, the timing of this news looks a bit odd to me as Zack Snyder’s Justice League is debuting on HBO Max on March 18 and CW has just launched their new Arrowverse series, Superman & Lois. So could it mean that a live-action DC multiverse is coming, well I have no idea about this, but if this happens we might get a chance to see this new Superman from the reboot coexisting with Cavill and Tyler Hoechlin’s Superman versions.
However, reboot writer Coates has also suggested in a statement that the reboot is set in the DCEU, saying “to be invited into the DC Extended Universe by Warner Bros., DC Films and Bad Robot is an honor.”
