Update: Emma Stone has officially signed a new deal with mouse house studio – Disney – to star in the upcoming “Cruella 2,” reports Deadline.
Original Article: Disney’s “Cruella” – a live-action prequel to “One Hundred and One Dalmatians” – has just released a week ago and even before it make an entry in its second weekend of release, reports are suggesting that its sequel (Cruella 2) is already in the works at Disney.
First reported by The Hollywood Reporter, a sequel to Cruella (Cruella 2) is in “early development” at Disney with director Craig Gillespie and screenwriter Tony McNamara expected to return for the sequel. Along with this Emma Stone is also expected to reprise her role as the fur-loving villain Estella/Cruella.
A Disney spokesperson said to Variety that,
“We are very pleased with Cruella’s box office success, in conjunction with its strong Disney+ Premier Access performance to date.
The film has been incredibly well received by audiences around the world, with a 97% Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes , ranking it among the most popular of our live-action reimaginings.
We look forward to a long run as audiences continue to enjoy this fantastic film.”
Director Gillespie previously hinted in an interview with Collider about the possibility of a sequel (Cruella 2) that,
“We’ve only just met her. I’d love to now see the full-blown Cruella, fully loaded.
We all were pushing Cruella 2 all the time and thinking, “I don’t know if Disney’s gonna be okay with this,” but they would always call and be okay.”
Latest addition in the Disney’s Live-Action adaptations of its animated classics, Cruella starring Emma Stone debuted on May 28 in cinemas and on Disney+ and has earned $32.4 million domestically and $48.5 million worldwide so far.
