A14 Bionic of iPhone 12 set to blow Snapdragon 875 out of the competition

While there are still some questions to be answered about iPhone 12, the chip powering the iPhone 12 is pretty much nailed on. Apple’s A11 chip powered the iPhone X, A12 powered the iPhone Xs, and A13 was front and centre for the iPhone 11. With all this info it doesn’t take a genius to see that the upcoming iPhone which is iPhone 12 will be getting a brand new A14 Bionic chip.

And it’s also not wrong to say that Apple’s A14 chip will be the fastest processor Apple has ever had. Now according to reports, we have an idea of how much better an A14 Bionic chip can be. And honestly, it’s looking very promising.

TSMC (the manufacturer of Apple-designed chips) at its annual tech symposium early this week, took the opportunity to share the roadmap for its new 5-nanometer successors in the form of N5P and N4 process nodes which is very likely to be used in Apple’s A14 processor. While the name for the chip isn’t mentioned for obvious reasons. As you can see, the chart below via Anandtech shows the difference between the company’s 7nm and 5nm silicone, in terms of performance. In short a 15% boost in performance, with 30% less power draw.

This chart reveals what we can expect from Apple about the performance of an iPhone in the upcoming years. Also, we should not have to wait too much longer for the iPhone 12, despite the fallout from Covid-19, rumors are still pointing to a September event.
