Covid-19 from its beginning has affected the business of movies in theaters and until now theaters are affected. But still, there are some movies that don’t give a sh*t about it, and on the top of that list is Jungle Cruise which collected around $34 Million only in domestic theaters during its debut.
Based on the famous Disney’s Theme Park Ride, Jungle Cruise is an action-adventure movie, premiered on 28 July on theaters and Disney+. It has collected $34 Million in its debut weekend from 4,310 domestic theaters, $27.6 Million internationally, and $30 Million from Disney+ subscribers. Bringing a total of $90 Million globally and becoming the third-largest opening during the pandemic, reports Variety.
This victory to Disney is brought by Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt after they caught into a controversy regarding their release strategy with ‘Black Widow’ star Scarlett Johansson, who filed a breach of contract lawsuit against Disney for costing her millions of dollars for profits.
On the other hand, A24’s ‘The Green Knight’ (starring Dev Patel and Alicia Vikander) holds second place with $6.78 Million. While M. Night Shyamalan’s film ‘Old’ last week No.1 now holds third place in the box office by collecting $6.76 Million in their second week. Old’s thriller intrigued the viewers.
The Black Widow falls into fourth this weekend with $6.1 Million. It is being in the top 5 for the last 4 weeks. Through 4 the week collection it sums to $166 million domestically and the second highest-grossing film of 2021.
And Tom McCarthy’s film ‘Stillwater’ acquired fifth place this weekend with $5.12 million during its debut. Stillwater is starring Matt Damon, Camille Cottin, and Abigal Breslin, and its story is based on a college student imprisoned in Italy and her father visits her in prison.
All these movies must be great if you didn’t have to watch so go and watch them.
In other news, The Rock confirmed that he’s not returning for future Fast and Furious films.
