Seeking immortality, Amazon and Blue Origin founder and the world’s richest man with a net worth of about $201 billion, Jeff Bezos has reportedly invested millions into a mysterious anti-aging research startup Altos Labs, and for which Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk mocked him by tweeting, “And if it doesn’t work, he’s gonna sue death!.”
As reported by MIT Tech Review, Altos Labs is looking into ways to reverse aging in human cells and is allegedly attracting big-name investors such as Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos and Russian-Israeli billionaire Yuri Milner. Nowadays the start-up is persuading the world’s top scientists by providing big salaries and equity to give them free rein on their anti-aging research.
Professors who are working on this research saying their ultimate goal is to explore rejuvenate cells and themselves too. As the Altos Labs and professors saying their goal is not to earn money first but its discovery in anti-aging research. Now here comes the twist if the start-up somehow achieves immortality who will exactly get access to it? So, Altos Labs seems to be a bit of a mystery to me.
Meanwhile, taking a jab at Jeff Bezos for investing in this anti-aging startup, Elon Musk tweeted, “And if it doesn’t work, he’s gonna sue death!”
Well, it is no secret to anyone that the beef between the world’s two richest men has been somewhat tense since Bezos has sued the US Space Agency (NASA) for awarding contracts to Musk’s SpaceX instead of his aerospace company BlueOrigin.
Even Musk tweeted, “Turns out Besos [sic] retired in order to pursue a full-time job filing lawsuits against SpaceX,” after Amazon filed a lawsuit so big that it even crashed the DOJ computer system last month.
For now, we don’t know how long this beef will run and all that we can do right now is grab some popcorn and watch the drama unfold. (People wanted Bruce Wayne vs Tony Stark but I think they’re going to get Lex Luther vs Tony Stark)
However, for Bezos, this is not the first time he has invested in this type of research. in the past, he also invested in an anti-aging company Unity Biotechnology.
